Description:
The cloud can
facilitate users to have simple and easy maintenance, no capital investment, provide
infinite computing power and high volume of data storage for their application
needs. In spite of these advantages of cloud some sensitive applications have various
specific challenges, during cloud implementation, such as security, privacy, accountability,
auditability, and transparency for their transferred/stored data in the
cloud.
In this
assignment you are required to select any one of the following application and present
the challenges in implementing the application in cloud environment based on
the referred research papers.
Each member
in a team is required to refer at least 1 journal paper or 2 conference
papers. Therefore, a team will have to
refer at least 2 journal papers or 4 conference papers.

applications is given below:

§ Banking/Finance application
§ Enterprise Resource Planning (any modules) application
§ Insurance application
§ Mobile application
§ Forensic Science application
§ Email application
§ Data mining application
§ Network monitoring application
§ Any other application – approved by your tutor
To avoid repeated
selection of same application among various teams – the selection will be
restricted to number of teams in the class. There is no specific number - your
lecture/tutor will advise you through Moodle announcement and/or in the
tutorials.
Research Papers:
The referred
conference research paper should be from IEEE, ACM digital library or from
Google Scholar and the length of the paper should not be less than 6 pages. A
journal paper can be from IEEE, ACM, Elsevier and Springer and the length of
the paper should not be less than 10 pages. The aim of this assignment is to
understand the challenges involved in implementing the cloud for certain
applications. Therefore, all the referred paper should be relevant to the
selected application. If you are not sure about the selected research papers, before
preparing your presentation, consult with your lecture/tutor about the selected
research papers and the relevant application.
Presentation:
Each team
should present their work in the Week 11 during lecture time. Each presentation
is expected to take between 15 to 20 minutes – this includes Q&A session at
the end of your presentation. You will
be stopped after 20 minutes, so please time your presentation accordingly
so that you have allocated adequate time for your Q&A.
Your
presentation should be presented as a collective effort, not a series of referred
research papers presented by various team members. Check the criteria for assessment/marking
guidelines below for the presentation - it is important is to get the all the
referred materials relevant to the application and combine them coherently to
satisfy the criteria for assessment.
Criteria for assessment:
A walk
through for your presentation is given below that would satisfy the marking
guidelines. Please note this is only a suggestion – as long as your
presentation covers the requirement given in the marking guidelines marks will
be awarded.
In the
presentation, your team should briefly introduce the selected application i.e.
it should answer the following questions: What are the functionalities of the
application? What are the processes involved?
And how it is used in the real-time and any generic overview about the
application?
Following
that the sensitivity should be emphasised in the presentation - the sensitivity
depends on the type of the selected application and should be from the referred
material.
Owing to the
sensitivity, the challenges involved in cloud implementation should be
discussed. Here you can compare and talk about the traditional/existing implementation
and cloud based implementation. This can be from the referred and/or based on
the knowledge gained from this unit.
Describe the
implemented details of your selected application in the cloud environment. An
application can be implemented in the cloud and can be delivered as one of the cloud
types (IaaS, PaaS or SaaS) and as one of the cloud models (Public, Private,
Hybrid or Community). Based on the knowledge gained from this unit and/or from
the research papers you are required to give any suggestion/ideas for the
challenges faced in cloud-based implementation.
The team
should end the presentation and allow time for the Q&A about their
presentation within the allotted 20 minutes. It is not necessary that your team
have to use Power point slides - your team
may present “live” or choose to create a presentation through another medium to
show. Marks will be based on the quality of how it is presented to the
audience.
Submission:
You are
required to submit a single zip file that contains the power point slides (if
any) and the referred research papers before your presentation in the link
provided in the Moodle – only one submission per team. Please name
your zip file, using one of the team member’s name as follows:
