Muscular Dystrophy-Although there are several types of Muscular disabilities I find them all interesting but Dystrophy got my attention
Muscular Dystrophy-Although there are several types of Muscular
disabilities I find them all interesting but Dystrophy got my
attention: “When a child has muscular dystrophy, this means that
the muscles fibers in the body gradually weaken over time. The most
common type is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which occurs only in
boys. All types of muscular dystrophy are genetic even though other
family members may not have the condition. The condition is
inherited for one or both of a child’s parents.
The limitations of this physical impairment affect a student's behavior and learning by preventing them to be able to use their physical body normally and limiting them the normal mobility of a student. It can affect student's behavior and it can cause a child to have difficulty in engaging in the class activities and even be uninterested or withdrawn from classwork.
Physical or educational accommodations an educator or related service provider make to address these needs are to educate the family by researching programs and find ways of coping with the disability. They need to stay up-to-dateon research, clinical trials and materials that will give them information for daily living.
Wheelchairs, joint braces, ventilator for breathing, iPad, chrome books, and computers are some assistive technology tools or devices that might provide greater access and independence for students and help meet the educational need for children with Muscular Dystrophy.
