Lanoe Falconer’s novella, “Cecilia de Noel,” is about how people have encounters with ghosts through their religious views. As we seen in Finucane’s “The Thirst for Immortality,” the spiritualism and rationalism plays huge role .

They were excluding the Mrs.Mallet because they know she saw the ghost and not afraid to talk about it which is not usual and acceptable at that time. Narrator used the word extraordinary when he describe the ghost. (5) For instanse when Ghosts seen as a stranger when Lady Atherley describes the noise of ghost she says ‘’such a strange noise, like the howling of a dog.’’(Lanoe Falconer, 2)



‘’Did she cook that omelette?Then I am sure she is perfectly respectable; and pray let her see as many ghosts as she cares to,especially if it leads to nothing worse than her taking a modarate quantitty of brandy.’’(4) If a woman cook well and do what they should do in order to take care of the house they get a chance to see what they want to do even if its seeing a ghosts.
