Research and Précis Writing Activity:
Instructions: This assignment asks you to access an article using the Project Muse Database. After you have found an article that is both useful and interesting to you, please download this document, and write a 1-2-page précis of the article for Wednesday, Feb. 12.
A definition of a précis can be found here: http://www.cgu.edu/pages/905.asp; http://writingcenter.tamu.edu/2010/types-communication/academic-writing/precis/
Examples of a précis can be found here: http://courses.rhetprof.net/eng6000/precis
Research:
Begin by accessing Project Muse. For the sake of time, simply click on this link: http://muse.jhu.edu/
In the upper right-hand search bar, type: “Dystopian Fiction” or perhaps “Dystopian Film”
Search through the list of articles that returns and try to find something interesting to you.
To do this, open the entry information and read the article summary if available. If no article summary is available, open the article and take a look!
Tips:
Be certain to select an article that is interesting and accessible to you! Many of the articles that come up will likely be from specialist journals and will, therefore, be a bit difficult to understand.
To state this another way: Do not judge a book by its cover—or an article by its title. Read and consider your selection.
